How Email Delivery and SMTP Settings Work
Campaign Builder / Sky Campaigns sends emails through WordPress by default.
This means email delivery depends on your WordPress site, hosting provider, and any SMTP or transactional email plugins you use.
Default Email Delivery
By default, Campaign Builder sends email using WordPress wp_mail().
This can work with:
- Your hosting email system.
- An existing SMTP plugin.
- An existing transactional email plugin.
- Optional Sky Campaigns SMTP settings.
Optional Sky Campaigns SMTP Settings
Campaign Builder includes optional SMTP settings.
These settings let you configure SMTP specifically for Sky Campaigns emails.
This is optional. You do not need to use Sky Campaigns SMTP if your site already sends emails correctly.
When to Use Optional SMTP
Use the optional Sky Campaigns SMTP settings if:
- Your site emails are not sending.
- You do not already use another SMTP plugin.
- You want Sky Campaigns emails to use specific SMTP details.
When to Leave Sky Campaigns SMTP Disabled
Leave Sky Campaigns SMTP disabled if:
- You already use another SMTP plugin.
- Your site already uses a transactional email service.
- WordPress emails are already working correctly.
- You do not want separate SMTP settings for Sky Campaigns.
Can I Use My Existing SMTP Plugin?
Yes.
If another SMTP or transactional email plugin already handles email delivery, leave the optional Sky Campaigns SMTP settings disabled.
Campaign Builder can still send emails through WordPress wp_mail(), and your existing email delivery plugin can handle the sending process.
Emails Are Not Sending
If emails are not sending, check:
- WordPress can send email.
- Your hosting mail service is working.
- Your existing SMTP plugin settings are correct.
- Optional Sky Campaigns SMTP is disabled unless intentionally configured.
- The sender email address is valid.
- WordPress cron is running for auto responders.
Important Note
Email delivery depends on your WordPress email setup.
If your site cannot send WordPress emails, Campaign Builder emails, welcome emails, newsletters, and auto responders may not send correctly.
